From 23 to 26 of May 2022, the Cultural Broadcasting Archive (cba) organised a hackathon and conference in Linz on “Building a European Cultural Backbone – Federation of Civil Society Media Infrastructures”. These efforts are closely linked to those of Shared Digital European Public Sphere (SDEPS). The common goal is to counter monopolistic platform capitalism by nurturing a distributed digital public sphere in Europe brought about by civil society, public service media and public knowledge institutions.
In my presentation on The SDEPS Media Stack and its Governance and Funding I explored some of the software and organisational elements for building such a public sphere.
